I have written encryption tools for USB Drive and Harddisk, now you are sure to know the importance of data security. In addition to the USB and hard disk encryption solutions, you have more choice to protect the folders in smaller-scale, which means fewer operation steps, faster processing speed.

1.    WinMend Folder Hidden

WinMend Folder Hidden is a free file/folder hiding tool. While ensuring the absolute system safety, this application can quickly hide files and folders on local partitions and/or on removable devices. The hidden files/folders will be safely hidden whether the drive is accessed in another operating system on the same computer or reinstalled on another computer. You can set a password for this application.

A disadvantage of this tiny freeware is the encryption algorithm is unknown, and may be not so securely, official site also tells you, “It’s not recommended for commercial settings where more strict confidentiality is required”.

2.    Folder Lock

Folder Lock offers a fast way of encrypting and password protecting files and folders. You can either choose to encrypt important files from techies or lock your files, pictures and private data from casual users. Folder Lock comes with locking, encryption, shredding, stealth mode, hack attempt monitoring, portability, plug & play support, history cleaning, and more than 20 privacy features all tailored to special needs for people wanting privacy and security.

Although it’s powerful and has AES encryption algorithm, it is not free…

3.    GiliSoft File Lock Pro

GiliSoft File Lock Pro is a power file encryption software program that can quickly and safely lock and hide files, folder, and drives, and it can use 256-bit AES encryption (Encryption Standard Adopted by the US Government) to protect your files located on HDD drive or any portable media such as USB drives.

It uses the same AES encryption algorithm as Folder Lock, but has less additional functions than the latter, so it’s a little cheaper.
